Onion TOPPERS function as follows:
1. The onions are fed into them by an elevator or a conveyor belt.
2. Inside the topper they pass over a vibrating stainless steel grid. The vibration is such that the onions are slowly transported over the stainless steel grid.
3. Under this stainless steel vibrating grid are knifes in the shape of a propeller that has 2 functions: 1) to suck the stem and loose skins through the grid downward. 2) Cut the stems at the required adjustable length. The required stem length can be very easily adjusted by adjusting the height of the knife through turning a simple bolt.
4. At the other the onions leave the ONION TOPPER via a conveyor belt normally towards the inspection table.
The knives and grids are very easy to replace.
